TOPEX/Poseidon: Designed and constructed jointly by the French space agency and NASA, this instrument uses a radar scatterometer to evaluate world ocean circulation, and radar altimetry to determine the topography of the sea. The accuracy of the altimetry measurements are estimated to be to within 3 centimeters.
