Course Objectives: The course will focus on the interactions of systems that shape the Earth's surface, and the landforms that result. Laboratory exercises are designed to apply field techniques, photo and topographic map interpretation to infer active tectonics; fluvial, glacial, and aeolian processes; soil formation; landsliding, and other surface processes.

Prerequisites: Geology 101 and Geology 101L, or permission of the instructor. The ability to read topographic maps is essential!

Required Text: Don J. Easterbrook: Surface Processes and Landforms, Second Edition. Prentice Hall, 1999. Additional materials will be handed out in class.

Required Readings: Click here

Required Field Trip: Click here for some images from a previous field trip!

Assessment:
Midterm (Tuesday, October 15, 2002) 20%
Final (Wednesday, December 18, 0715-0930) 30%
Labs (Not equally weighted) 50%
[Landform of the Week +10%]

Grading Policy: Late papers will not be graded, and will be assigned a grade of (zero) unless you:

Labs are due at the time specified on each due date.

Attendance: You are expected to attend every class session. Some of the lecture material is not covered by the text.
