Geology 100W: Technical Writing Workshop
Spring, 1999

Bibliography

Assignment:

Turn in a bibliography of at least three pages. You are encouraged to search for information on a topic that interests you. This bibliography may be used as the framework for your major research paper, or it may cover a different topic: The choice is yours. Use the modified MLA Style, as presented on "Handout #5."

Intended audience:

University professors, journal editors, professional/technical readers.

Goal:

To gain experience in formatting citations appropriately for a technical/scientific research paper.

Suggestions:

Use of your ASCII GeoRef search files will facilitate this task. You may use a word processor to cut and paste the required elements from your search in the appropriate order. This will save you a great deal of time!

The Modern Language Association provides a downloadable computer application called the "Scribe Reference Builder." The package automatically generates the MLA style references for printed and electronic documents from keyboard- or disk file-input. The URL where this may be downloaded is: <http://www.scribesa.com/mlastyle.htm>. If you're a techno-black-belt, you may want to give it a try. (It costs $49.00.)

It will be helpful to use the linked references to our class web page. The URL to access this page directly is: <http://geosun1.sjsu.edu/~pmessina/100W/100Wlinks.html>, or navigate to it from my personal home page (click on the "links" icon on my home page: <http://geosun1.sjsu.edu/~pmessina/pmessina.html>).

For items that do not quite fit any one rule, combine rules. Consistency is the key!

Special Instructions:

Your bibliography must contain a variety of reference types. You are expected to include:
